The bill is a blatant attempt of the U.S. empire to further repress protesters, dissenters, and those that oppose the federal government’s suppression of free speech.
The bill is a reaction to years of powerful boycott, divestment, and sanctions movements; decentralized mass protests; college campus encampments; and successful direct actions against the ongoing genocide of Palestinians.
H.R. 9495 is an attack on the NLG.
The bill, which just passed the House of Representatives, is called the “non-profit killer,” because it gives the federal government the power to designate non-profits as “terrorist supporting organizations,” stripping them of their nonprofit status and punishing those who dare to support them.
As the NLG, we know fascism at work when we see it: we have been targets of the government multiple times, notably by McCarthyism in the 1950’s and infiltration by the FBI in the 1960’s and 70’s. Every time, we have fought back – and won!
The U.S. has a history of using “terrorism” designations on people, organizations, and entire countries it deems as oppositional to its imperialist ambitions.
